Description et objectifs

Middle English (1066-1500)

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to language change and the history of the English language—a chance to get acquainted with the languages Tolkien used to study. No prior knowledge of medieval English is required. In the second semester, we focus on the basics of dialectology and Early and Late Middle English (c. 1100-c. 1500).

This semester can be taken independently from the first semester on Old English.
The course consists of a lecture for basic facts and theory, and a class for practical exercises (lecture and class brochures will be handed out during the lecture and in class early in the semester).
